The Great Wall. Finally. This - along with the Terracotta Warriors - was one of the things that I had to had to had to see in China. As Mao said, one who has not walked the wall has not lived.
Now, I wouldn;t go that far, but The Wall was really incredible. Shiz and I had only a couple of hours due to winter bus times, but every minute was worth it. There was a touch of mist in the air to make things other-wordly, but still enough for us to see and appreciate just how big that thing is. I'm still not sure if I realize it.
Basically, what you do at The Wall is simple: you walk. A lot. We walked up stairs, down stairs, into towers, out of towers, up towers, around towers, and generally all over the place. We ended up only having three hours walking the one section we wer allowed on, and even though I could have walked more, it was well more than enough. The biggest part is thinking back on it and trying to imagine how long that thing goes on for.
I realize that I am doing a bad job of explaining it, but there is really no good way, methinks. It was great, do it. I want to go back and do it again, but next time I want to start at the easternomst point and walk west for a week.
By the by, you can't see it from space. (Not that I was in space at anytime, but those who have been say ÿou can't.)
